Agenda for the May 20, 2009 meeting of the
Saint John Ministerial Association
Falls View Restaurant
- Welcome and review of last year
- During the last year we met on a monthly basis, held our Good Friday Service and enjoyed fellowship and some great information that was very helpful in pastoring our Churches. Each meeting carried something very special into our hearts. I personally grow after listening again to Laurel Buckingham. He is always challenging and honest about the difficulty of ministry. I find it helpful to listen to such a church builder. Out time at Germain Street with the para church ministries in our city was healing and informative. Listening to Reed Fleming reflect on the reality of bring church planting theory and theology to the testing ground of the streets was life giving.
- I have to admit that I found the run up to every meeting we had a spiritual struggle. At each meeting however I was very pleasantly surprised by the spirit, unity and quality of each time together. I was however somewhat disappointed by the low numbers.
- At our latest executive meeting I shared these things and after some prayer and thought Dave M came up with what I consider to be a truly prophetic suggestions. He put forward the thought that all of us can find great resources and great inspiration from a wide variety of sources.. After all, who has not read a really great book or heard a great talk in the last month. We live in the information/communication age and this is just a part of our envirment today. To conduct face to face meetings to communicate and be inspiried and receive new information is somewhat of a loosing battle, although there are some aspects of this that can’t be replaces. What was suggested however was that there is a reason that we should meet and must meet, and that is to pray together. I think I speak for the entire executive when I say that we felt “quickened” at the suggestion. After some more talk and prayer we have decided to call series of meetings for next year that will focus primarly on prayer. We are in the midst of working with Prayer over the City, National House of Prayer, the Billy Graham Association and will look for other partnerships through out the year to facilitate and call us together in prayer. Beginning in September we will focus our resources and time on prayer together for the sake of the City and the Church in the City.
